Lockheed Martin and Boeing held a meeting with officials of India’s defense ministry Tuesday in New Delhi to discuss the possible production of F-16 Super Viper and F/A 18 Super Hornet fighter jets in India, the Economic Times reported Wednesday.
Manu Pubby writes Keith Webster, director of international cooperation for the defense undersecretary for acquisition, technology and logistics, was present during the meeting between the defense contractors and India’s defense officials.
The Economic Times reports that talks over the production of fighter planes in India as part of the Make in India program would continue in line with Defense Secretary Ashton Carter’s scheduled visit to the country on April 12 to meet with Manohar Parrikar, India’s defense minister.
Phil Shaw, head of Lockheed’s Indian unit, announced in March that Lockheed is in talks with the U.S. and Indian governments as well as India-based industry partners to move some production of F-16 aircraft to India.
