Cherokee Strategic Solutions, a Cherokee Federal unit, will develop and install technological support tools for the Federal Aviation Administration’s Automated Weather Observing Systems, or AWOS, under a $69.4 million contract.
Remarks by Cherokee Federal’s Aaron Fletcher
Aaron Fletcher, Cherokee Federal’s senior program manager, said in a statement issued Tuesday that the contract reaffirms the trust that the FAA has extended to the company’s team and their common commitment to enhancing aviation safety.
“Over the past decade, we have evolved into a truly integrated partner with the FAA, solving problems, implementing solutions and delivering results as an extension of their mission,” Fletcher remarked.
In 2018, Fletcher received an FAA citation for his role in supporting the agency’s then newly introduced weather observation platform.
Contract Terms
The agency competitively solicited offers on the small business set-aside contract, which comes with a five-year base period and three one-year options. The award calls for delivering advanced technology support to over 500 FAA-operated U.S. airports. The systems that CSS will provide will work to enhance aviation safety and operational efficiency in isolated or weather-sensitive airport locations, enhancing airport situational awareness and enabling air traffic controllers and pilots to improve flight planning and response to changing operational environments.
Since 2015, CSS has deployed 231 AWOS-C systems and 226 Surface Weather Systems.
