SkyWater Technology has received a $12 million investment from the Department of Defense to support the intellectual property expansion of its 90-nanometer radiation-hardened manufacturing process.
The investment is part of an initial $27 million DOD funding awarded as an other transactional agreement option, the company said Wednesday.
IP ecosystem design and validation for the rad-hard by process platform is currently being performed by Trusted Semiconductor Solutions and CAES, which teamed up with SkyWater in 2021.
“Next generation systems will need to operate in very complex, demanding radiation environments, and we are proud to partner with SkyWater on their development for aerospace and defense markets,” said CAES CEO Mike Kahn.
The two-time Wash100 Award recipient added that the application of CAES’ technical capabilities with SkyWater’s RH90 technology is aimed at meeting future industry requirements.
SkyWater also announced the latest developments related to RH90, including the launch of initial process design kits and multi-project wafer shuttles. The MPW allowed customers to test and evaluate the PDK, IP building blocks and design features of RH90 while validating their own IP.
