Boeing is investing in the development of a new Missouri-located regional innovation facility in an effort to establish and accelerate the advanced manufacturing sector’s growth in the region.

The company said Friday the five-year, $5 million investment in the Advanced Manufacturing Innovation Center in St. Louis will be used to fund workforce development programs and expand the region’s technical and manufacturing talent pool.

The new 130,000 square-foot facility will house research, development and prototyping programs in a range of vertical areas including aerospace, geospatial, automotive, agriculture technology, biomedical, construction and logistics.

It will be located near the triangle that consists of the Cortex innovation community, the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency’s West facility and the Ranken Technical College campus.

Steve Nordlund, vice president and general manager of Phantom Works for Boeing’s defense, space and security unit, will join the AMICSTL board of directors as part of the investment.
