Eric Brown, vice president of Azure global mission platform engineering at Microsoft, said the company works to help Department of Defense customers and partners meet evolving compliance requirements through its Azure Government cloud platform.

One of the compliance requirements that defense contractors should meet is DOD’s Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification program and Brown wrote in a blog post published Tuesday how Azure Government and Microsoft 365 Government (GCC High) could help contractors achieve CMMC Level 3 and above.

He said the company also extended support for the defense industrial base and contractors in meeting the requirements of the Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement through its Azure Commercial cloud.

“The introduction of DFARS 7012 in Azure Commercial offers you more choice in the selection of Microsoft cloud offerings that best suits your requirements for the protection of Controlled Unclassified Information,” Brown wrote.

Brown also mentioned Microsoft’s CMMC Acceleration Program, the company's partnership with General Dynamics' information technology business to help defense customers migrate to Azure Government and Microsoft 365 and the availability of 120 infrastructure-as-a-service and platform-as-a-service capabilities in Azure Government that are authorized for workloads at DOD Impact Level 5. These Azure Government services include Windows Virtual Desktop, Azure Databricks, Azure NetApp Files and Azure Sentinel.
