Raytheon Technologies’ intelligence and space business has received a potential five-year, $251M award to further the development of the U.S. Space Force’s satellite data processing framework for missile-warning operations.
The U.S. Air Force contract, which has a two-year base period and three one-year extension options, covers operational transition support for the Future Operationally Resilient Ground Evolution mission data processing application framework for infrared satellites, RI&S said Monday.
The company partnered with Dell Technologies, Red Hat, Rocket Communications, Outside Analytics and SCITEC to continue developing the FORGE framework, which will work to support space-based infrared systems as well as the proposed next-generation overhead persistent IR system.
RI&S will evolve the open-architecture framework to enable the processing of various data types. According to the company, the team will utilize DevOps concepts as part of the development process.
Ted Glusko, vice president for intelligence production solutions at RI&S, said the modernized FORGE is meant to provide operators with faster access to OPIR satellite data and new applications.
“We’re now transitioning from a prototype design to delivering the FORGE framework to the broader OPIR community,†he noted.
RI&S secured a $197M contract to prototype the FORGE framework in January. The program falls under the Space and Missile Systems Center’s Cross-Mission Ground and Communications Enterprise directorate.
