Medtech Group to Seek Proposals for COVID-19 IT Platforms

A biomedical technology consortium that works with the U.S. Army's Medical Research and Development Command is planning to issue a request for proposals for a cloud-based health information management platform to support possible critical care requirements related to COVID-19.

An upcoming RFP notice will focus on projects to build integrated tools and clinical workflows for the establishment of "virtual wards" to extend intesive care services to conventional, nonconventional and temporary medical facilities amid the coronavirus pandemic through the National Emergency Telecritical Care Network initiative, according to a presolicitation notice posted Monday.

MTEC indicated its intent to seek white papers that will describe the potential of current tools such as mobile communications, clinician-facing web application, real-time documentation and cloud-based data storage to be adapted for the NETCCN program.

Requirements for creating the virtual wards include information sharing, credential verification and staffing, coverage and care models.

The Department of Defense is expected to allocate $30 to $37M in fiscal 2020 funds for the program, which is contingent on funding availability.

MTEC anticipates up to six awards for initial technology development projects.
