Doug Averill, global government business line leader at cloud software provider Pegasystems, has said a low-code approach to developing applications can help agencies address productivity and efficiency challenges in information technology infrastructure operations.
Averill wrote in a GCN insight piece published Friday many agencies still rely on traditional code-driven development methods that involve frequent efforts to rewrite, update or rebuild systems as IT requirements evolve over time.
He noted the low-code process works to encourage collaboration between IT personnel and business users. The approach allows “citizen developers†with no programming experience to create or modify apps, eliminating a need for agencies to assign a large group of programmers, according to Averill.
“By encouraging a culture focused on low-code adoption and implementing the technology to do so, agencies can more easily realize their digital transformation goals,†he added.
Averill recommended that agencies work with subject matter experts to identify challenges facing app users and determine ways to address the issues without disupting operations as IT teams embark on low-code projects.
