Charles Stark Draper Laboratory has secured a $83.4M cost-plus-fixed-fee contract from the U.S. Navy to carry out research efforts to help the Trident II D5, a submarine-launch ballistic missile, achieve guidance requirements.

The laboratory will also provide the service branch with technical expertise to support navigation and control applications for missile, the Department of Defense said Monday.

Strategic Systems Programs awarded the contract via a sole-source acquisition process and the Navy will obligate $40.2M from fiscal year 2020 research, development, test and evaluation funds at the time of award.

Contract work is scheduled to conclude by Sept. 30, 2021 and will take place in Cambridge, Mass.
