Collins Aerospace has introduced a ground station for military customers to transmit audio, visual and data communications without utilizing satellite technology. The Universal Radio Group offering is designed to connect more rapidly than legacy equipment because of its 4G automatic link establishment feature, the company said Tuesday.
Composed of a RT-2200A wideband HF radio, a PA-2010 power amplifier and ancillaries, the URG-IV system supports real-time instant messaging in addition to image and voice communication.
“URG-IV provides an ideal alternative for communications in areas where warfighters are facing SATCOM denied and jammed environments,†said Troy Brunk, vice president and general manager of Collins Aerospace’s communication, navigation and guidance solutions division.
“Modernized HF is an integral component of a communication system’s PACE (Primary, Alternate, Contingency, Emergency) plan and helps maintain situational awareness on the battlefield.”
The wideband communications platform is on display at the ongoing Defense and Security Equipment International exhibition.
