Capella Space has partnered with SpaceNet to help grow the nonprofit organization’s geospatial open source research initiative via the adoption of synthetic aperture radar data.
The company said Wednesday that it will implement machine learning approaches to SAR data to address concerns in disaster response and global supply chain activity monitoring. Capella will also provide data access to its user community to enable software engineers and data scientists to work with SAR information.
“Traditionally, this type of high-resolution SAR data has only been used by governments for defense applications and has not been easy to access,†said Andrew Ulmer, vice president of business development at Capella Space.
He added, “By opening access to this type of data and lowering barriers to adoption, we aim to foster broad and rapid advances in commerce, conservation and well-being across many industries.†In addition to Capella, various companies including Maxar Technologies and Amazon Web Services have also collaborated with SpaceNet in line with the project.
