A new Symantec report says 54 percent of information technology decision makers think their organizations’ cloud security practices cannot keep pace with rapid cloud adoption.
The company polled 1,250 IT leaders across 11 countries for the 2019 Cloud Security Threat Report and found that 73 percent of respondents said their organizations witnessed security incidents caused by immature security practices.
The report showed that a quarter of respondents said alerts related to cloud security go unresolved and 83 percent said they feel their organizations lack effective processes to respond to security incidents in the cloud.
“Data breaches can have a clear impact on enterprises’ bottom line, and security teams are desperate to prevent them,†said Nico Popp, senior vice president for cloud and information protection at Symantec.
“However, our 2019 CSTR shows it’s not the underlying cloud technology that has exacerbated the data breach problem – it’s the immature security practices, overtaxed IT staff and risky end-user behavior surrounding cloud adoption,†Popp added.
According to the report, federal agencies must adopt a zero-trust model and promote a cloud-ready culture among employees while advancing the use of automation and artificial intelligence.
Symantec also found that 93 percent of respondents indicated that they are facing issues when it comes to monitoring all cloud workloads and majority said they consider oversharing as a problem.
