The Customs and Border Protection within the Department of Homeland Security used 50 robotic process automation systems from IBM in 2018 to speed up the migration of 30 terabytes of archived emails to a new platform, FCW reported Wednesday.
The use of RPA helped CBP reduce the time to process a terabyte of data from a couple of months to a single day.
Jonathan Riksen, homeland security client lead at IBM, said federal agencies are now using RPA as the President’s Management Agenda calls on agencies to free up employees for more mission-critical tasks.
Dave Levy, federal government vice president at Amazon Web Services and a 2019 Wash100 winner, said cloud computing is a “huge enabler†for government employees because the technology has helped the workforce to focus more on mission-oriented activities.
“The federal workforce is hungry for new sets of technologies,†Levy told the publication. Those technologies include artificial intelligence, machine learning and RPA.
