Alion Science and Technology has received a four-year, $48.6M task order from the U.S. Air Force through the Department of Defense’s Information Analysis Center contract to perform research, development and engineering services for ordnance systems’ damage mechanisms.
Scope of work will include the creation of high-explosive energetic materials, warhead optimization systems and technologies that will allow fusion of current and future weapon platforms, the company said Monday.
In addition, Alion will evaluate the performance of conceptual weapons, conventional inventory, reaction and detonation processes to establish mechanisms that will enable the survivability of ordnance systems.
Services under the contract are also intended to update the Air Force Research Laboratory's research, development, test and evaluation capacities.
“Our team stands ready to enhance the development of lethal Air Force munitions capabilities as these technologies are transitioned to all phases of development and production,†said Alan Dietrich, senior vice president at Alion.
