The Department of Energy has earmarked a total of $46M for 202 U.S.-based companies to study the feasibility of new technological innovations through the Small Business Technology Transfer and Small Business Innovation Research programs.
STTR and SBIR Phase I participants have the opportunity to receive as much as $200K to conduct research efforts within a period of six to 12 months, DOE said Monday.
Projects selected for the first phase will support a range of DOE offices and cover concepts such as blockchain, nuclear security, solar cells, electromagentism and superconductors.
The department will select companies that can apply for Phase II grants, which have a median value of $1.1M and encompass prototype development and validation activities.
Work under the program's second increment will commence in fiscal 2020 and run for two years.
