The Department of the Treasury is seeking potential industry sources of a hidden machine-readable system designed to authenticate features of U.S. money.
A FedBizOpps notice posted Monday stated the department looks to obtain, test and assess materials and tools that can potentially hide and apply counterfeit deterrent features on banknotes.
The feature should be resistant to duplication or simulation and difficult to discover on a banknote, the Treasury added.
The department's Bureau of Engraving and Printing will review and evaluate proposed technologies or materials based on compatibility with production and design factors, environmental acceptability, durability and other processing requirements.
Interested parties can submit preliminary samples and brief technical descriptions to the bureau until Jan. 24, 2020.
