Intel Supports Bridge Inspections With Drone Technology - top government contractors - best government contracting eventIntel has been using automated drone technology to support inspections of the Daniel Carter Beard Bridge and Stone Arch Bridge in partnership with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet and the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

The company said Wednesday it worked with KYTC and engineering firm Michael Baker International to inspect the Daniel Carter Beard Bridge, which connects Kentucky to Ohio and provides a pathway for almost 100K vehicles daily.

The Falcon 8+ drone took around 2.5K images that served as basis for a 3D model to guide analysis of the cable stability and paint deterioration.

Intel also helped the MnDOT and Collins Engineers assess the Stone Arch Bridge, which requires annual inspection due to the structure’s complex build, aging stonework and damaged steel span.

The drone support reduced the inspection’s work duration by 28 percent and operational costs by 40 percent.

The Falcon 8+ is designed to operate in windy and electromagnetic environments and uses Intel Mission Control programming to traverse automated flight paths for safety.
