Boeing CEO Dennis Muilenburg has said the company is coordinating with the U.S. Air Force to secure the final delivery requirements for the KC-46 Pegasus aircraft, Defense News reported Saturday.
Muilenburg said during a third-quarter earnings call that Boeing continuously works toward the final certification of the refueling and transport tanker to meet its delivery target, which is at the end of 2018.
Boeing has recently authorized KC-46 to provide support services for the F/A-18 Hornet and B-52 Stratofortress planes, with F-15 Eagle certification planned this week.
The aircraft manufacturer is also working with the Air Force to fix category-1 issues in the aircraft’s remote vision system and other components.
“We’re trying to work with Boeing on what its plan is to rectify the deficiencies that have been identified so that we get a tanker as we’ve contracted to get,†explained Air Force Secretary Heather Wilson in an interview at the 2018 Airlift/Tanker Symposium.
The service intends to procure 179 models of KC-46, with initial operational capability planned a year after delivery and full operational capability after two years.
