General Atomics‘ aeronautical systems business has announced plans to expand its North Dakota-based flight test and training center, aiming to satisfy the growing demand for flight crew training and sensor system testing.
The company said Thursday it will add 14.5 acres to the 5.5-acre site located at the Grand Sky Unmanned Aircraft System Business Park near Grand Forks, N.D.
The business also intends to install a second permanent hangar with more space for office and classroom activities, and at least double its 47-person workforce in the Grand Forks area over the coming years.
General Atomics made the announcement during the Aug. 9 visit of Secretary for Homeland Security Kirstjen Nielsen and Sen. John Hoeven, R-N.D., to the FTTC.
The center currently consists of an office building, classrooms and a training simulator for the MQ-1 Predator UAS, in addition to the Grand Sky hangars.
