The State Department has approved Bahrain’s request to buy from the U.S. government penetrator and general purpose warhead bomb bodies through a potential $45 million foreign military sales agreement.
Bahrain asked to purchase BLU-109 penetrator and MK-82, MK-83 and MK-84 GP munitions to deter regional threats, carry out counterterrorism operations and build up homeland defense, the Defense Security Cooperation Agency said Friday.
The FMS transaction covers repair parts and spares, containers, test equipment, munitions components, technical documentation, program support and logistics and shipping services.
The Middle Eastern country will also use the munitions to support U.S.-led coalition missions and help its air force sustain operations with F-16 fighter jets.
DSCA said it notified Congress of the potential sale Thursday.
