General Atomics Aeronautical Systems Inc. commenced on Thursday in Nagasaki, Japan, public demonstrations of its remotely piloted aircraft that will collect data for research and for the development of guidelines for RPA flights.
The three-week demonstration for the Guardian RPA includes 10 five-hour test flights in partnership with the Iki Airport and related organizations such as airspace authorities, General Atomics said Monday.
Data gathered by the RPA will aid in observations of meteorological, oceanic and disaster events and will support marine accident and rescue operations and explorations for aviation, communications and industries.
Several government agencies and scientific research institutions will share the collected data while some organizations will use flight data from the demonstrations to establish procedures for RPA operations in private airspaces.
