Boeing has expanded its facility in Huntsville, Alabama as part of an effort to extend its missile defense system program.
Alabama Local News said Saturday Boeing will hire 70 new workers, as well as accelerate the production of the Patriot Advanced Capability-3 missile at the expanded space.
“Today’s celebration of this expansion is focused on the PAC-3 missile that is really a bullet shooting down bullets to further protect the nation and also our allies from hostile missiles and hostile aircraft,†Alabama Governor Kay Ivey said during the ribbon cutting event for Boeing’s 28,000 square-foot facility.
Ivey added the continued development reflects the need for national defense and additional jobs for the people of Alabama.
Jim Chilton, senior vice president of Boeing Defense, Space and Security’s Space and Missile Systems division, also noted that the company will modify existing equipment in addition to producing more missile seekers.
