Laura Carmack, vice president of human resources at SAP National Security Services and VP of recruitment at the NS2 Serves nonprofit organization, has said she believes industry needs to take more measures to help address the gap in veteran unemployment.
Carmack wrote in a guest op-ed piece published Friday on DC Military magazine that industry should find a way on how to transition military retirees to civilian life.
“The process starts with developing a thorough method for locating veterans who need assistance,†she noted.
Carmack cited how Mark Testoni, SAP NS2 president and CEO and a 2018 Wash100 recipient, approached her four years ago to help hire and train post-9/11 veterans through the NS2 Serves program.
She also discussed several qualities military veterans possess that could be beneficial to private sector companies.
Those include veterans’ sense of responsibility, adaptability, ability to learn new skills and comfort in risks.
“Equipping our veterans with industry-specific expertise and educating hiring teams about the true ROI of veteran employees are two great ways to begin embarking on a path towards zero percent veteran unemployment,†she added.
