QinetiQ and the British defense ministry will jointly provide $27 million in funds to support the upgrade of an environmental test facility based at a military installation in Shoeburyness, England.
The company said Tuesday the investment in the Environmental Test Centre is part of an effort to modernize the U.K.’s test and evaluation systems.
ETC provides facilities, technology and expertise to help assess the performance of live munitions in various environments and climates.
The funds will cover new, refurbished and expanded test buildings; new equipment; and the recruitment of additional specialist engineers.
Steve Fitz-Gerald, managing director for maritime, land and weapons at QinetiQ, has said that the upgrade effort is intended to boost ETC’s capacity to meet the demand for test activities and accommodate a wider range of tests.
QinetiQ is under a long-term agreement with the U.K. defense ministry to manage MOD Shoeburyness.
