General Electric has received a $14.7 million order to supply LM2500+ power turbine and gas generator assemblies along with LM2500 integrated electronic control kits to the U.S. Navy.
The Defense Department said Friday the kits will be used to modernize the service branch’s Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyers and Ticonderoga-class guided missile cruisers.
The LM2500+ gas turbine engine employs a gas generator and a power turbine to provide propulsion for Wasp-class amphibious assault ships LHD-6, LHD-7 and LHD-8.
GE’s integrated control kit consists all equipment needed to electronically perform upgrades on the fuel control system of the LM2500 gas turbine, DoD noted.
The company is expected to fulfill the order by August 2020.
