A Babcock-led industry team will vie for the British defense ministry’s $1.7 billion Type 31e general purpose light frigate program.
Babcock said Monday the Team 31 industry group includes Thales, BMT, Harland & Wolff and Ferguson Marine.
Team 31 will build on the achievements of the Aircraft Carrier Alliance — a partnership of Babcock, BAE Systems, Thales and the UK defense ministry that currently develops the Queen Elizabeth Class aircraft carriers.
Babcock will serve as program lead; Thales will be responsible for mission systems development; and Babcock and BMT will contribute their experience in the development of naval and commercial ship designs.
The team members’ respective facilities in U.K. will help spread out the project’s economic benefits across the country, Babcock noted.
