Northrop Secures Army Radar Tech Risk Reduction Contract

Northrop Grumman has been selected by the U.S. Army to conduct a risk reduction activity for a radar technology designed to replace the service branch’s current Patriot air and missile defense system radars.

The company said Friday it aims to provide a Lower Tier Air and Missile Defense Sensor for integration into the Army’s Integrated Air and Missile Defense enterprise through a contract from the service branch’s Lower Tier Program Office.

LTAMDS will be designed to operate with the Northrop-developed Integrated Air and Missile Defense Battle Command System.

Northrop noted the IBCS command and control system works to integrate air and missile defense weapons and sensors for military users to gain a comprehensive view of threats in real time.

The company plans to leverage its experience developing ground-based radars, such as the U.S. Marine Corps‘ AN/TPS-80 G/ATOR active electronically scanned array, to support the LTAMDS program.
