Kongsberg to Provide U.S. Army with Additional Weapon Stations

Kongsberg signed a $39.8 million order to further furnish the U.S. Army with a battle tank remote weapon station system.

The company said Friday that it will deliver additional PROTECTOR Remote Weapon Station Low Profile Commonly Remotely Operated Weapon Station configuration for the U.S. Army’s M1A2 Abrams Main Battle Tank spare parts and engineering services program.

The order is part of a contract signed in August 2012 for the CROWS system.

Pal Bratlie, executive vice president of Protech Systems for Kongsberg Defense and Aerospace, said that the PROTECTOR Low Profile CROWS System order for the Abrams Main Battle Tanks and spare parts sustainment demonstrates the company’s partnership with the U.S. Army.

The CROWS system variant was collaboratively developed by Kongsberg and the U.S. Army and is intended for integration with various platforms and for use with small and medium caliber weapons.

The system is designed to provide tank commanders with enhanced visibility inside the vehicle and a fully stabilized system for international operations.

Kongsberg has provided 18 countries with the PROTECTOR RWS as of this year.
