BAE Systems has awarded manufacturing contracts worth approximately $52.4 million to 15 international suppliers for diesel and gearbox filtration, pipework, fittings and vibration monitoring equipment that will support Type 26 frigates.
The company said Thursday the globally deployable, multi-mission Type 26 warship, which features a modular design and open systems architecture, will support various operations including high intensity warfare and humanitarian assistance missions.
The contracts will also help boost the number of maritime jobs supported by the Type 26 program to more than 4,500 positions, noted BAE Systems.
Nadia Savage, program director for Type 26 global combat ships at BAE Systems, said the company will work with talent from the U.K. and overseas to produce and deliver the warship for the country’s navy.
