Report: General Motors to Create New Defense Industry Unit - top government contractors - best government contracting eventGeneral Motors aims to create a new defense industry unit as part of the vehicle maker’s efforts to expand business with the U.S. military, Automotive News reported Monday.

The report said GM will establish the GM Defense unit within the company’s global product development arm.

GM has initiated multiple defense projects and is in talks with the U.S. Army on a plan to develop the company’s hydrogen fuel cell truck for military applications.

The new business unit will be led by Charlie Freese, executive director of GM’s global fuel cell business.

Elizabeth Winter, a GM spokeswoman, said the company has yet to identify a headquarters location for GM Defense.
