DigitalGlobe has chosen Raytheon as the payload provider for a constellation of next-generation satellites designed to capture Earth imagery.
Raytheon said Tuesday it will supply combined electronics, detectors and telescopes to Palo Alto, California-based satellite manufacturer Space Systems Loral, which serves as the space vehicle integrator of DigitalGlobe’s future WorldView Legion constellation.
WorldView Legion’s payload will work to help increase DigitalGlobe’s capacity to record multispectral and 30-centimeter satellite imagery on high-demand locations.
Walter Scott, founder, executive vice president and chief technology officer of DigitalGlobe, said the company believes in the quality and performance of Raytheon’s instrument design to help satellite customers obtain insights into global events in the coming years.
Raytheon intends for its payload system to maximize the efficiency, sustain the quality and extend the mission life of WorldView Legion satellites.
DigitalGlobe aims to launch WorldView Legion satellites beginning in 2020.
