General Dynamics has awarded Universal Switching a contract to provide data distribution for satellite command and control systems that will help connect Canada’s military to the Wideband Global SATCOM satellite constellation.
Universal Switching said Aug. 22 it will supply its S64530 Digital RS-530 switching system to aid Canada’s participation in the WGS constellation, called the Mercury Global project.
In 2014, General Dynamics’ Canada-based subsidiary secured approximately $70 million in contracts to design, build and maintain anchor stations that will facilitate the Canadian armed forces’ use of WGS under Mercury Global.
The S64530 switching platform is designed to meet Canada’s immediate digital requirements as well as provide modularity to accommodate future growth, Universal Switching noted.
Other WGS participants include U.S., Australia, Denmark, Luxembourg, the Netherlands and New Zealand.
