Raytheon‘s missile systems business has received a $38.6 million contract to develop incremental software that will work to increase the performance of the U.S. Air Force‘s advanced medium-range air-to-air missile system.
The company will provide AIM-120D AMRAAM software to the military branch as part of the System Improvement Program 3- Engineering Manufacturing, Development program, the Defense Department said Wednesday.
AIM-120 missiles are designed to integrate with F-15, F-16, F/A-18, F-22 and F-35 aircraft platforms and equipped with an active radar and microcomputer system that works to engage low-altitude targets.
The Air Force Life Cycle Management Center obligated $4.8 million in fiscal 2017 research, development, test and evaluation funds at the time of award.
Raytheon will perform contract work in Tuscon, Arizona, through Jan. 5, 2021.
