Huntington Ingalls Industries has demonstrated the performance of a dual-mode undersea vehicle through autonomous contested battlespace missions that took place at the U.S. Navy-hosted Advanced Naval Technology Exercise.
The Proteus vehicle delivered and launched three smaller unmanned undersea platforms during the underwater mission segment of the event, HII said Wednesday.
HII’s technical solutions division and Battelle jointly developed Proteus.
“ANTX provided us an excellent opportunity to demonstrate Proteus’ capabilities to Navy leadership, the Navy technical community and our industry partners as we work to meet the Navy’s future requirements,” said Ross Lindman, director of operations at HII’s Undersea Solutions Group.
The Naval Surface Warfare Center collaborated with the team of HII, Battelle, Northrop Grumman and Riptide to facilitate demonstrations of aerial, surface and underwater vehicle missions at the event.
UUVs from Riptide and Northrop also executed mission plans with the use of onboard sensors and payload technologies to aid contested battlespace investigations and preparations.
