Voxtel has secured a potential $5.2 million contract from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency to provide software-reconfigurable imaging and ranging sensors designed to perform autonomous navigation and military imaging.
The company said Tuesday it aims to create a multimode fused image sensor technology that will combine laser detection, radar sensing and short-wavelength infrared passive imaging features under DARPA’s ReImagine program.
DARPA seeks a field-programmable imaging array system that features reconfigurable pixel elements to help support object detection and extraction activities as well as pixel-registered sensor fusion.
Voxtel CEO George Williams said the company’s multimode fused image sensor would support applications that need laser power such as LADAR-assisted automotive navigation technologies.
The sensor will be built to extract information, detect objects autonomously and configure imager, the company noted.
