A Northrop Grumman subsidiary has received a contract from NASA‘s Jet Propulsion Laboratory to develop an optical technology platform for integration with an infrared space observatory.
Northrop said Monday Adaptive Optics Associates will design and produce an adaptive optics tool for the Wide Field Infrared Survey Telescope designed to capture images of exoplanets throughout the platform’s mission.
AOX will integrate adaptive optics technology onto WFIRST’s optical-imaging coronagraph to help the telescope see planets across other solar systems.
M. Roman Hachkowski, general manager of Adaptive Optics Associates, said that the company’s technology will look to help astronomers continue ongoing research on the study of exoplanets.
Adaptive Optics Associates produces optical and photonic systems that support various markets around the world including the defense, industrial and scientific industries.
