LAC Federal has secured a five-year contract to provide cataloging and cataloging support services to the Smithsonian Libraries that include maintenance work on bibliographic records within online systems.
The company said Monday it will offer original and copy cataloging of books, CDs, microfilm, electronic journals, magazines and other printed material on various western European and Asian languages.
Cataloging services will also cover maps, notated music, manuscripts and video recordings as well as additional physical processing for proper item shelving and retrieval.
Smithsonian Libraries obtains new material through channels such as gifts-in-kind of books and other research material from donors such as researchers and scientists.
LAC Federal’s team will aid efforts to maintain discoverability and access to research collections through cataloging records.
LAC Federal offers library and information center services for agencies such as the Commerce Department, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and U.S. Agency for International Development.
