Iridium has unveiled its new suite of aviation broadband connectivity products and services that will work to provide global data communications for business and general aviation users.
The company said Monday the Iridium Certus service portfolio features a variety of products from four avionics manufacturers.
Iridium Certus is designed to utilize the company’s NEXT satellite constellation to provide global coverage, reliability, throughput and eventually speeds of up to 1.4 megabits per second through small antennas.
“We believe it’s now safe to say that everyone in the business and general aviation community will soon have a viable option, with no prerequisites or strings attached, to fulfill their connectivity needs especially where they may not have thought it possible before,” said Brian Pemberton, vice president of strategy and aviation line of business at Iridium.
He added that Iridium Certus will work to support the specific connectivity requirements of the aviation industry in platforms such as jets and rotorcraft.
The platform will work to address potential connectivity demands in an effort to upgrade performance, utility and value for cockpit and cabin communications.
Iridium noted the portfolio will help deliver speeds of up to 176 kilobits per second for low-gain antennas and 1.4 megabits per second for high-gain antennas designed to work in business aviation cabin connectivity platforms, as well as provide users stand-alone connectivity and Very Small Aperture Terminal integration options.
