Doug O’Brien, formerly senior adviser for rural affairs at the White House’s Domestic Policy Council, has joined the National Cooperative Business Association CLUSA International as executive vice president for programs, effective Nov. 1.
Judy Ziewacz, president and CEO of NCBA CLUSA, said in a statement released Monday O’Brien’s experience in international development, domestic affairs and cooperative business model complements the organization’s strategic focus.
O’Brien served as acting undersecretary of rural development at the Agriculture Department before he assumed his post at the White House.
He was former chair of the rural working group of the Organization for Economic and Cooperative Development and former counsel on the Senate Committee on Agriculture.
O’Brien also served as assistant director at the Ohio Department of Agriculture and senior policy adviser on renewable energy at the Iowa governor’s office.
NCBA CLUSA is a trade association that provides cross-sector support to U.S. cooperatives.
