Red Hat and public cloud provider UKCloud have forged a partnership to develop an infrastructure-as-a-service cloud platform for the U.K. government’s work to deliver digital services to the public.
UKCloud has standardized on Red Hat OpenStack Platform with Red Hat Ceph Storage to handle citizen web applications and government systems in behalf of public sector organizations across industries such as healthcare, defense and police and justice, Red Hat said Monday.
Radhesh Balakrishnan, general manager of OpenStack for Red Hat, said UKCloud has been equipped with an open cloud service that complies with the U.K. government’s digital strategy to change public sector services in the country through Red Hat OpenStack Platform and Red Hat Ceph Storage.
UKCloud will use Red Hat’s open technologies to support cloud-native applications for customers and complement its enterprise platform.
Red Hat and UKCloud developed the production environment within six months to meet the deadlines of G-Cloud, a U.K. government effort to simplify the procurement process for public sector organizations.
