QTS Realty Trust has purchased a Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program-compliant cloud platform from VMware for an undisclosed sum.
QTS said Wednesday it has rebranded VMware vCloud Government Service as QTS Government Cloud and expects the acquisition to help expand QTS’ portfolio of hybrid cloud platforms designed to help federal information technology professionals meet IT infrastructure compliance requirements.
Dan Bennewitz, chief operating officer for sales and marketing at QTS, told ExecutiveBiz that the purchase would provide government customers access to QTS’ portfolio of cloud, colocation and managed services as well as build up the intellectual property holdings of QTS, software-as-a-service companies, original equipment manufacturers and third-party providers that serve the federal government.
The FedRAMP-authorized QTS Government Cloud is an infrastructure-as-a-service community cloud offering that works to facilitate hybrid and traditional system deployments for federal agencies.
QTS’ cloud platform is designed to host the Defense Department’s impact level 2 workloads and was developed in collaboration with Carpathia Hosting, which was acquired by QTS in June 2015.
