Juliet Marine Systems has announced that it plans to develop a configurable submersible unmanned surface vehicle based on the company’s existing vessel design.
JMS said Wednesday it will build the Guardian USV as a modification of the company’s GHOST vessel for manned or unmanned surface and subsurface operations.
The high-performance watercraft maker developed the GHOST small waterplane-area twin-hull vessel for eight years.
Gregory Sancoff, president and CEO of JMS, said the company aims to help address the USV mission requirements of naval customers with the Guardian platform,
Guardian is designed to have drag reduction technology and a diesel powertrain with a hybrid electric drive.
The company added the USV will average 30 to 45 feet in length and operate at a speed of 35 knots when in surface mode.
