Huntington Ingalls Industries‘ shipbuilding business has landed a potential $65.3 million undefinitized contract modification from the U.S. Navy for the purchase of long lead-time materials for a Ford-class aircraft carrier.
The Defense Department said Wednesday Newport News Shipbuilding will provide the materials for the USS Enterprise aircraft carrier and perform work in Newport News, Virginia, through December 2018.
The Naval Sea Systems Command will obligate the full amount at the time of award from fiscal 2016 Navy shipbuilding and conversion funds.
USS Enterprise, the service branch’s first nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, has supported operations during the Cuban missile crisis, launched strike operations in Vietnam and performed combat missions to assist Operation Enduring Freedom.
