The Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology within the Department of Health and Human Services has awarded a total of $1.5 million to seven recipients under two cooperative agreement programs in an effort to bolster flows of health information.
HHS said Wednesday the funds will create standards-based systems to facilitate health information exchanges and lessons learned from the efforts will work to foster innovation of electronic information usage through tests on new health care delivery approaches.
National Health IT Coordinator Vindell Washington said ONC will support the projects that aim to further develop the use of common standards for care in categories of medication management, laboratory data exchange and care coordination.
Awardees for High Impact Pilot programs include:
- The Health Collaborative
- Lantana Consulting Group
- RxREVU
- The University of Utah
Standards Exploration Awards recipients include:
- Arkansas Office of Health Information Technology
- Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center
- Sysbiochem
HHS based its selections on criteria such as program capacity to address health IT challenges, scalability, potential impact, technical approach, innovation, creativity and program alignment with department goals to unlock health data.
