The U.S. and Indian governments are close to completing a joint production deal for the Javelin anti-tank guided missile, Defense News reported Wednesday.
Vivek Raghuvanshi writes the U.S. and India have been in talks for several years to co-produce weapons and equipment in efforts to build on their defense relationship.
Tata Group’s Tata Power Strategic Engineering Division signed a letter of intent in August with Javelin Joint Ventures, a Lockheed Martin–Raytheon joint venture, to explore strategies for the co-development and co-production of the Javelin missile system.
JJV and Tata Power SED seek to jointly manufacture the latest generation of Javelin ATGM, Defense News reports.
The report said Rahul Chaudhry, CEO of Tata Power SED, noted the negotiation covers the FGM-148 Javelin, which he says U.S. forces currently use.
“While pricing could remain an issue, this would not prevent Tata Power SED being a sourcing agency for components of Javelin being sold globally by the U.S. manufacturing duo Lockheed Martin and Raytheon,” Rahul Bhonsle, a defense analyst, told Defense News.
