SimplyHome has received a $200,000 grant from the Department of Veterans Affairs to develop a technology platform for voice commands to control assistive technology under the Specially Adapted Housing Assistive Technology program.
The company said Tuesday the platform will work to enable physically disabled veterans and service members to use voice commands to trigger pre-customized actions on the technologies installed in their homes.
“Empowering our veterans to control their home environments is [not only] important… for the quality of life of the individual veteran and his/her family but also vital to maintaining the fabric of our communities that depend on these service members,” said Jason Ray, SimplyHome vice president for business development.
The SAHAT grant aims to help veterans under VA’s Specially Adapted Housing program to live independently in their homes through home modification options.
The grant program is valued at $783,421 and runs through September 30, 2017.
SimplyHome said it has provided in-home assistive technology for medication management, home environment and health to customers since 2004.
