Fortinet‘s threat intelligence reports have helped Interpol to uncover a group of fraudsters that stole more than $60 million from businesses worldwide through online scams.
Fortinet said Monday threat information cooperation between its security research unit FortiGuard Labs and Interpol led to the exposure of the cyber fraud ring behind thousands of 419, dating and Alibaba scams as well as financial account hi-jacking and payment diversion schemes.
Interpol and the Nigerian Economic and Financial Crime Commission arrested the cyber crime group’s leader during a joint operation in June.
“The best way to combat the negative impact of cybercriminals is partnership based on actionable intelligence from wide and diverse sources,” said Derek Manky, global security strategist at Fortinet.
“Fortinet is taking action to fight cybercrime not only via product and services innovation with our Fortinet Security Fabric, but also global public and private sector relationships,” Manky added.
The NATO Communications and Information Agency signed a partnership agreement with the company earlier this year as part of the alliance’s Industry Cyber Partnership framework.
Fortinet also seeks to promote collaborative threat intelligence and data sharing among organizations as a member of the Cyber Threat Alliance and the OASIS Cyber Threat Intelligence group.
