The U.S. Army is searching for industry partners that can provide information on Wide Area Motion Imagery / Wide Area Aerial Surveillance systems and answer inquiry on basic qualifications in developing or upgrading WAMI hardware or software.
A notice postedThursday on the FedBizOpps website says the Army Contracting Command will collect data on behalf of the branch’s Communications-Electronics Research, Development and Engineering Center that may be used to develop a future acquisition strategy.
Interested parties have until September 8 to submit responses on WAMI payloads the Army says should cover multiple line replaceable units along with an imaging sensor unit and storage and processing unit as well as sensor optics, focal planes and supporting electronics for pointing and stabilization.
The Army wants a WAMI system to work in day and night conditions, cover a large area of interest at moderate ground sampled distance resolutions and provide persistent airborne surveillance of an area centered at a geo-designated point as a host aircraft orbits.
The system will also gather electro-optical and infrared imagery and associated metadata, as well as track and geo-locate targets of interest such as vehicles and dismounts.
