An Onvia study has found that the number of solicitations from state and local agencies for “as a service’ information technology management models hit 940 during 2015, a nearly 10 percent increase from the prior-year figure.
“With the number of solicitations increasing steadily, the doors are opening for IT service providers that can provide government agencies with new business models for operating their applications and hosting infrastructure,” Lyndon Dacuan, an Onvia market analyst, wrote in a blog entry posted Thursday.
He cited Vermont as among U.S. states that are considering adoption of aaS platforms to manage IT operations of some agencies.
Vermont’s 2015-2019 IT strategic plan calls for an investment in software-as-a-service model at the state’s Agency of Education and Department of Motor Vehicles, according to Dacuan.
He added a seven-year Kentucky capital improvement plan obtained by Onvia’s Spending Forecast Center says the Commonwealth Office of Technology is looking to introduce a brokerage service for aaS offerings.
