The U.S. Customs and Border Protection has issued a request for information on body-worn cameras and vehicle-mounted cameras in an effort to expand the use of such devices in its operations.
The RFI comes after the completion of a feasibility study on body worn cameras conducted by a working group that CBP Commissioner Gil Kerlikowske commissioned in 2015, CBP said Thursday.
“This solicitation for information on available technology is an important step in CBP’s efforts to determine how expanded camera usage can benefit our agency,†said Kerlikowske.
The agency noted that it plans to implement a risk-based approach to deployment of such cameras for use in checkpoints, vessel interdiction and boarding, training, pilot certificate inspections and other law enforcement operations as per the feasibility study.
CBP said in a FedBizOpps notice posted Thursday that it will accept responses to the RFI within 10 days following the publication of answers to industry questions.
